Soul & Spirit / Health + Healing — a $5 eBook + audiobook for vets, first-responders, and the families who love them. How to overcome Post-Traumatic Stress & Moral Injury and develop lasting emotional resiliency.
If you stand watch, if you carry weight others can't see, if you love someone who does — this is for you.
Identify the hurts. Implement healing protocols. Increase strength & resiliency. Here's a sample of what's inside the 150-page book.
Many people carry trauma longer than they need to, because they apply the wrong remedy — one that works for a different kind of hurt. Identify · Implement · Increase.
You must identify the KIND of hurt you have, so you can address that type of hurt — and not something else.
Many people carry trauma longer than needed because they implement the wrong protocol. The wrong remedy works… for other issues.
With the correct strategy in place, you'll increase your strength (capacity to withstand future pressure) and resiliency (ability to bounce back and heal faster).
Scripture. Science. Simplicity. All three working together, taking you to the space God intends for you.
GY6 affirms three "parts" we need to address. Though each part impacts the others, the body, the soul, and the spirit are each unique. Many people don't distinguish between the soul and the spirit — which leads to much confusion. They each serve us in unique ways. They can each be injured in specific ways. And they must each be healed in their own way.
Sometimes healing happens "instantly" (and looks like a miracle). Other times healing occurs "over time" (and looks like a lifestyle of health and wholeness). We see both in the New Testament. If a miracle occurs, we steward the blessing by "walking it out." If we walk it out intentionally, we often reap the same results — over time.
GY6 brings together the wisdom of Scripture and the gains of science, all working together to take you where God intends. And we communicate the concepts in simple-to-understand-and-apply ways. No PhD required.
The 150-page manual is organized into three sections, with two lessons per section — designed to be read in one sitting, or worked through over time.
We discuss the importance of total wholeness — and how we must heal the kind of hurt we have. We affirm that each part of us matters — body, soul, and spirit. And we'll only be as strong as the weakest part, since each "part" impacts the others.
PTSD is a response to external threats and primarily impacts our emotions. We discuss what triggers are, why emotional disruptions occur, and how to read the present for what it is — instead of always interpreting it in light of the past.
Moral Injury is a response to internal threats and primarily impacts our beliefs about what we've done, failed to do, or had done to us. Moral Injury appears more prevalent than PTSD — and seems to drive the suicide rate among heroes.
Many people confuse PTSD and Moral Injury — they think they (or someone they love) has one when they actually have the other. The remedy for one isn't the remedy for the other. Here's the key distinction.
A sight, sound, smell, taste, or texture might "trigger" a reaction when you read the present in light of past experiences. Symptoms — fight, flight, freeze, fawn — tend to diminish over time, especially as we do the work.
The soul is your mind & thoughts, your will & desires, your emotions & feelings. When the soul is injured, it shows up as hyper-vigilance and reading present circumstances through past chaos.
A past event that marked you and makes you feel guilt and/or shame — based on what you did, failed to do, or had done to you. Symptoms tend to escalate. The longer guilt and shame linger, the more lethal they become.
The spirit is the seat of conscience & conviction — the part of you connected to God. When the spirit is hurt, it shows up as guilt ("I did something wrong") and shame ("I am something wrong").
Anger · anxiety · depression · insomnia · nightmares · self-medication · withdrawal — these often accompany BOTH. The presenting symptoms look the same. The source — and the remedy — is different.

There are a lot of people more qualified to take you on a deep dive into the world of trauma. Andy's lane is:
He has studied, written, and taught about total wholeness (body, soul, and spirit) for two decades. He's interviewed hundreds of veterans, active service members, and family members about their personal trauma — warriors who served from WWII through the wars in the Middle East. He's talked with numerous clinicians, psychologists, and other medical personnel in both military and non-military settings. He's also worked in addiction/recovery, prison re-entry, homeless ministry, and human trafficking.
